Why I Finally Upgraded My Monitor (And Should've Done It Sooner)

Since 2018, I've been running the same LG monitor, first connected to my iMac, then to whatever laptop I had at the time. That iMac was from around the same year, and honestly, it started showing its age a while ago. Slower, glitchier, just not keeping up with the work.

In 2024, I finally made the jump to a new MacBook Pro and loaded it with everything possible. Yes, I paid the Apple tax. Fully worth it. It's been my main machine ever since.

But here's the thing nobody tells you: a great laptop doesn't mean much if you're still editing on an old monitor that isn't built for the work. My LG had done its job for years, but when it came to editing and color grading photos, it just wasn't doing the images justice anymore. I was making decisions on a screen that couldn't really show me what I was working with.

So I made the switch to the Apple Studio Display, and decluttered my desk in the process.

The difference has been huge. Editing feels sharper, literally. I can actually see what I'm doing when I'm color grading, and that alone has made me faster and more confident in the work. I looked at a few other options along the way, but I wanted something built to work natively with the MacBook Pro, and something that looked as clean as it functioned. Apple nailed both.

Was it the more expensive option? Sure. Was it worth it? Also yes. Between the display itself and finally having a clean, decluttered setup, my workflow has leveled up in a way I didn't expect from "just a monitor."
